Happy New Year, 2017!

Think of all the possibilities that life holds, and welcome the New Year with an open heart. There will be so many experiences to come. I'm very excited.

What are your 2017 plans?

I'm going to continue writing, of course. I want to get more books out there to my readers, but beyond that, who knows. I want to get healthier, and I have decided to cut down on my sugar intake and eat better. More exercise is also in order to tone and tighten.

I don't know what this year holds for me, but I do know that I don't want to waste or turn away new experiences. I'm looking forward to this year.

Cheers to you, readers. I hope you have a wonderful, prosperous New Year.

What will 2017 be to you?

Another Publisher going under

All Romance Ebooks is closing it's door as of December 31st 2016. Here is the link via Romance Writers of America and their take on the situation. Click here. This was an unexpected closing as we haven't heard of any issues with the company that might have indicated trouble.

What does this mean for all the authors out there?

Hard to say considering what ARe is doing as far as getting royalties to authors for this 4th quarter. Is it shady? Not for me to say, but I can tell you that organizations such as RWA don't appear to approve of the way this is all going down.

Is it a sign of better things to come in 2017?

Maybe these companies such as Ellora's Cave and ARe have simply run their course. Their business practices have been exposed. Perhaps going forward into the new year is a matter of authors taking back their rights to their work and becoming independent of publishers all together.
Don't get me wrong. I have publishers and I appreciate what they do for me, but the industry as a whole is changing and changing fast.

If publishers want to stay relevant they may have to reconsider their business design. They may need to offer more to writers. All writers, not just their bestsellers. Higher royalties may need to be paid, and real work might need to be done by publisher to promote their authors and get them honest reviews. Perhaps publishers need to get their author's works back into stores as paperbacks.

Fact is, Authors are becoming savvy to their own success.

2017 should be an interesting year. I don't know what will happen, but considering how fast the publishing industry moves, there is sure to be more drama and changes. Author are keeping up. It's time for the publishing industry to take notice and get ahead of the curve so they aren't left behind to close up shop.

Does anyone else dislike the 'year in review' stuff?

The year in review? No Thanks!

This week there are plenty of television stations that are doing 'The Year in Review' specials. I'm not a fan. While there have been some good things that happened this year for me, such as the release of Sindriel, there is plenty I'm ready to leave behind.

Why do we need to relive the year?

There are ups and downs, conquests and tragedies, and life goes on as it does. I'm entirely ready to move forward without the burden of looking back over the months of 2016. I appreciate that I'll never have another 2016 but even if it had been a great year, I'd still feel like focusing on 2017.

Does anyone else dislike this 'year in review' stuff?
I just don't see the purpose in looking back over the year. I'm probably alone in this feeling but I can't see the reason to relive everything that's occurred.

After the joys of a wonderful Christmas it's time to focus on what will be a new year, new opportunities, and new life challenges. There's writing to be done, and life to be lived.

I hope to finish and publish another book in 2017. Beyond that I'll see what life has to offer and move forward from there. Does the threat of pain not yet experienced loom ahead? Sure, but that's life. If I fall to that unhappiness, I'll miss the little joys along the way.

It's time to prepare for 2017. I don't know what it'll bring, but I want to keep my heart open to all it has to offer.  With those thoughts in mind; may the New Year be kind, our lives be prosperous and writing be prolific.

Ever Notice how December is full of #Romance?

The garland is hanging and all around the house is the sparkle and magic of Christmas. I love this season. While the official start of winter is on December 21st, I'm all ready for the cozy joy that is this most festive time of year.

Hot chocolate and a romantic movie are the perfect way to spend the chilly evenings. Surround yourself with presents and wrapping paper and it's a party.

Here's a list of some of my favorite holiday movies:

The Nutcracker (My favorite romantic ballet)

A Christmas Carol (the old ones, not the modern day remakes)

We're No Angels starring Humphrey Bogart

It's a Wonderful Life starring Jimmy Stewart

It Happened on 5th Ave

These are the movies I can watch over and over again and they never get old. I have many on DVD. Let's not forget the classic Christmas cartoons as well. I've already see, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman. I missed A Charlie Brown Christmas, but I think it'll be on again.

There can never be too much love when it comes to the Christmas season. While we stress over shopping and presents, it's always nice to remember those we've loved and lost, as well as those we still have with us.

I released my contemporary romance, Bet Your Sweet Aces at Christmas time last year. It's a sassy romantic suspense story. Check it out if you'd like a good novella that demonstrates how true love wins over broken hearts.

Isn't it interesting how many of our favorite stories at this festive time of year have the theme of Love? What's your favorite movie or book for the holidays?

What are You Thankful for this #Thanksgiving?

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

There is so much to be thankful for this season. I'm thankful for the wonderful family I have that always sticks with me and keep my world so certain. Whether we all trickle in throughout the day on Thanksgiving or sit down together, we are part of one another and always together. It's great to catch up and take a renewing breath with one another. Not to mention how we all love a good turkey.

I'm also thankful for my friends, both online and off. Friends keep you feeling steady and lend a kind ear when you need it. They also make you smile and laugh and remind you that the world is a good place.

I know some great people, both writers and non-writers alike and each one has a special place in my heart.

It's fitting that Thanksgiving come near the end of a year. It's a time to look back and remember all the good things that happened, as well as to realize that you've made it through another year. Not always an easy task.

Most of all, I think that I'm thankful for my life. Despite adversities, I've been made stronger and am appreciative that I've been given the strength to push through hard times.

Cheers to new friends and old, to that which is no more, and that which will be.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Time to get ready for the Holidays #writerslife

I'm ready to move forward with life plans, now that the elections are over, and get ready for the holidays. I'm doing things a little different this year and bringing out my Christmas decorations early. Not everything, but enough to uplift my spirits and give me something happy to anticipate in the coming weeks.

I've already put up my nativity scene. I'm hanging my light-up garland today and maybe setting a few flameless candles. My table cloth is Thanksgiving themed and I'll add a few touches to the house to reflect that holiday. The big question you might be asking is why.

Several reasons come to mind. First, it's been a rough election year and things were so negative as to nearly consume any sense of hope. With the election over, I want to feel hopeful again, so I'm bringing optimism back to myself through the celebration of the holidays. Finding ways to move forward and reacquire hopefulness of tomorrow is the best way to tackle life.

I enjoy Thanksgiving with all it's offerings of delicious food, but it's also time for me to do some Christmas shopping. Why not therefore decorate for both holidays? It may be odd to have both holidays represented by decorations in November, but whoever said that writers were conventional people.

So, I'm going to set my Thanksgiving table and jingle my bells all the way to the 25th of December. Here's wishing everyone a joyful, healthy, love-filled holiday season.

Who else is ready to get into the holiday spirit?

Change is inevitable #Writerslife

We are usually resistant to change because as human beings we are predisposed to want consistency in our lives. Our minds work from consistency. When you face something new, your mind makes connections of familiarity in order for you to move forward into the unknown.

Sometimes this desire of consistency and familiarity causes us harm in our lives. We stay in abusive relationships, we keep a job we hate, or we allow others to use our kind natures against us. It all harkens back to the mind's desire for consistency.

Why is change good for us?

Change is life. Change can often mean emotional and mental growth, as well as new understanding. It brings about challenges which we must face and conquer.

Changes at work may mean frenemy coworkers leave their job and you must say goodbye. You don't have to keep toxic people in your life just because the consistency of their presence feels familiar. It's okay to move on emotionally.

It's never easy going forward when change enters your life. There are unanswered questions, fears, uncertainties, but go forward you must.

Consistency and familiarity are great, but keeping those just because you don't know what 'change' will bring isn't always best. Toxic is toxic and if it can't be fixed or if someone is making you unhappy in your life, you should consider allowing change into your life.

'New' means opportunities, but remember that 'new' doesn't happen by itself. You must support that which is new, give it your attention and a little bit of trust. See where it takes you.

In the end it's about how you move forward.

Consistency can be a good as change or as bad, depending on point of view. Our attitudes shape so much of our lives and can turn something bad to good if we change our way of thinking.

Wishing all of you a positive November.

The Warrior in Me by Anita Philmar #RomanticSuspense

Please welcome Anita Philmar to the blog. She's brought exciting excerpts of her newest romance book, The Warrior in Me – Erotic Murder Mystery/ Romantic suspense

Special Security Agent Sebastian Berlin is eager to track down his partner's killer. Instead, he’s assigned the job of baby-sitting a scientist. His boss thinks she's the key to an Ancient Warrior Prophecy. Science never interested Sebastian, but the know-it-all female standing at the end of his Alaskan dock could persuade him to do a little experimenting. That is, if he can keep his Neanderthal Warrior genes from taking control.

DNA specialist Lily Sinclair is in need of a vacation, or so her over-protective ex-husband tells her. Arriving in chilly Alaska instead of sunny Cancun, she's tired and cranky and so not in the mood for her bodyguard's he-man tactics. Still, there's something about the sexy eye-candy that makes her want to lick him all over even as she's demanding to go home.

Then Lily's ex is poisoned, and Sebastian is certain the two murders are connected and she could be next. She knows he's hiding something, but with the worldwide release of Neanderthal DNA project only days away, she has no choice but to trust him to protect her. But can she trust him with her heart?

Excerpt 1: (murder)

“I hate to tell you, but we found Cain’s body last night. He took two slugs in the chest.”
Relief, followed quickly by shock, filled Sebastian. A numbing sense of disbelief overwhelmed him. “What the hell? I thought he was working on a simple security detail.”
“Did he discuss his assignment with you?”
Sebastian ran a hand through his hair and scrambled to recall his last conversation with his best friend. Cain had called a week ago with a request for information on the people he’d been assigned to protect in California. His voice had reflected a bored almost disgusted tone. At the time, Sebastian had held his tongue and didn’t comment, but later he questioned the anomaly. His friend loved life and never became discouraged even when the odds were against him.
Frowning, Sebastian rubbed a hand over his neck, stroking the hairs that suddenly stood on alert. His initial disbelief faded. A gaping hole widened before him and stretched into an endless sea of despair. What the hell would he do without his best friend, his confidant?

Excerpt 2:

She blinked.
He had to be joking.
Lifting her hand to her chest, she sputtered, “Excuse me, what did you say?”
“Cain was murdered outside your lab.” He rephrased the sentence, but her brain registered only one word…—murdered.
She jumped to her feet and planted her hands on his desk. “Why didn’t anyone tell me this before now?” She glanced around for her purse. “I need to call Mark. We have to call the police and find out what the hell happened. Did they break into the lab?”
Without waiting for his reply, she turned and headed back down the hallway to where he’d left her suitcase. She didn’t see her handbag anywhere near it. Did she leave it in the small, tin-bucket-sized plane? Or had Bruce left it on the dock?
Desperate for answers to a whole host of questions, she rushed outside. “Damn it, Bruce, how do you expect me to stay in touch with home if you fly off with my purse."
Excerpt 3:  First Kiss

Seconds before his mouth covered hers, she whispered, “Sebastian, I don’t—” The rest of the sentence died under the quick spear of his tongue, seeking entrance into the hot moist haven of her mouth.

The fight he expected didn’t fully materialize. She gasped in shock, and her body stiffened. Then she lifted her hands to his shoulders, leaving the few inches between them vacant.

Tightening his grip, he drew the soft cushion of her breasts invitingly against his chest. All too quickly, he moved past the point of a simple kiss and fed on her unique flavor. He’d gone too long without the seductive touch of a woman. Today, she’d tempted him with the fire of her anger and the gentle concern for him at the loss of his friend. Holding himself in check, he’d resisted until she’d revealed her passion for her research. Now, he couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for her any longer. He ate at her lips, nipping and sucking until they opened wider.

Lily moaned, and he captured the sound, swallowing it as he flicked his tongue against the roof of her mouth. She welcomed him by drawing him deeper. He thrust in and out, over and over mimicking the ancient rhythm of sex.

Determined to sample every inch of the hot, moist cavity, he drank in the rich, sweet nectar. As stimulating as wine, he became drunk on her and tangled his tongue around hers. Time lost meaning. He forgot everything except her hands in his hair, her body plastered against his, the relentless need to consume her.

Somewhere in his subconscious, something reminded him that women didn’t progress from “Hello, it nice to meet you” to “Do you want to go to bed with me” this quickly. On the other hand, maybe, the light tingling of his scalp as she curled her fingers in his hair helped jog his memory. He had to take things a little slower if he wanted to win the girl.

Excerpt 4: (romantic fun)

A needy groan escaped him. “Honey, the only activity I want to do with you right now is strip off your clothes and make love to you.”

She blinked. “I don’t understand. You barely know me.”

“That doesn’t mean I’m not attracted to you.” He covered her wrist, fearing her touch might drive him to rush this moment. Slowly, he guided her away from temptation and placed her palm on his chest. “I took one look and decided I wanted you. That’s why I kissed you earlier, and why I’m losing the battle to keep my hands to myself.”

A whisper of a smile played over her lips. “Do you have protection?”

Hope sped through every cell in his body, and a tingle of anticipation sparked in his gut. “I have a whole box in the drawer next to my bed.”

“So you’d like to show me your bedroom?” she teased, and he recalled their earlier conversation.

“Say the word, and we’ll be on our way.”

Miranda Contreras never thought a bad choice in men could cause her to lose her soul. She must now call upon on a demon bargainer for help. Her life soon becomes one of hell realms and dangerous pleasures. Will she regain her soul but lose her chance at true love?

Demon bargainer and Lord of the Crimson Shroud, Sindriel, always bargains to his own benefit.
He'll face off against demons to retrieve Miranda's soul, but will he choose to discard her rather than face the truth of his own heart?
Adult Excerpt (R):
He speared his tongue inside her mouth, demanding and passionate, and she couldn’t hold back her moan of pleasure. They weren’t alone in the room. How could she be behaving like a wanton bimbo?
He broke the kiss all too soon, breathing hard through his nose. “I want you to do something for me,” he said in her ear to be heard over the blaring music.
She nodded, willing to agree to anything so long as there would be more kisses.
“Distract me.” He kissed her hard and fast. “Give me a hand job while Remi does the tat.”
“Won’t he see,” she whispered loudly in his ear.
She’d never done anything sexual in front of another person before. What if Remi messed up Sindriel’s tattoo because he was sidetracked by her? That would render the tattoo useless.
He shook his head. “Remi sees only in the spiritual realm while tattooing. He might see flares of aura colors but won’t physically see why.”
He lowered her slowly to the ground, leaving her legs wobbly.
“Ready, Sindriel? Fate awaits,” Remi called out, making no move to turn down the pulsing death metal music. He checked the ink tubes and needles on his tattoo glove, seemingly unaware of the intimate conversation going on in the room.
Sindriel winked at her before reclining on the tattoo chair. He stretched out his arm, same as she had previously, and both watched as Remi secured the leather strap to Sindriel’s wrist.
Her body pulsed with energy she didn’t know what to do with. Actually, she knew what to do with the energy. It was a matter of whether she was brave enough to do so in front of another person.
The idea of giving Sindriel a hand job excited her to the point it morphed into giving him a blow job. Could he hold still with her mouth working his cock? She clenched her thighs as she studied where she could put her hands on the chair and lean over him without jogging Remi. She’d take him deep in her throat and press her tongue to the underside of his cock with every upward motion of her head.
Yes, she could do this. Even if it strained her arm muscles a bit, much like doing slow pushups, she could rock Sindriel’s world.
She stood patiently next to the chair, butterflies of excitement dancing in her stomach and pebbling her nipples. The buzz of the machine set the tone. Remi’s eyes turned opaque, and he applied the needle to Sindriel’s inner arm. The atmosphere in the room changed as she and Sindriel shared the same sexual thoughts. The heavy pulsing of the music only added to the throb between her legs. She was already wet with unrequited desire and hoped he’d want to be inside her fast once they finished the tattoos and got somewhere private.
Touching a hand to his knee, she watched Sindriel grin but not open his eyes or look at her. She squeezed his thigh as she glided her hand up his leg. Wait until he realized her generosity would extend beyond a hand job.
If you'd rather not wait to read the book, click on the link and buy your copy today. It's a great read for a cool October night.

Car Adventures: Tires, an Air Compressor and Bravery

First off let me say that the prospect of putting air in my tires turned out to be more about fear in my mind than actual difficulty.

All my adult life, car maintenance has been done by the males in my family or by taking a vehicle to our mechanic. It's just been a convenient habit I never thought to break. Then a light went off in my car which indicated "Low Tire Pressure". Now I had a problem and help wasn't a phone call away.

I pretty much slipped into panic mode in my mind.

I didn't have anyone to call, as it was the middle of the day and everyone was working. I also wasn't near a service station. What I did have at my disposal was a portable air compressor. (Received it for Christmas) I'd seen how to use the compressor, but had never done it myself.

Emotionally, I didn't think I was capable of putting air in my tires on my own. The negative dialogue in my head didn't help. Then I realized a few truths.

Here's how things went as I, wasn't about to leave my car on its own, and came to the conclusion that I needed to be brave and move forward.

Positive Self-talk

I can't mess up the tire any more as it's already low. If I can't hook it up to the compressor properly and deflated the tire further, what does it matter?

I remembered that the door had a sticker which told the proper tire pressure (psi) needed. I want to the door and checked. There is was, perfectly readable and understandable.

Problem: I didn't have a pressure gauge. L I don't know how low each tire is.

Solution: The pressure should show when I start the compressor.

Taking Action

I plugged in the compressor into the cigarette lighter.

I then removed the little cap thing on the tire where the compressor would attach. Attaching the compressor was easy and didn't require any skill or strength. Yay for me.

I turned the compressor on and sure enough it showed the current air pressure and I saw what number I needed to get to as the compressor worked.

What I learned

Inflating a tire isn't technical but how many of us avoid learning? Independence, even in the smallest things can be a fantastic confidence booster. In fact you can google how to inflate your tires if you need a video to learn by. Go to "Inflate a tire with a portable air compressor". You'll find all sorts of videos. Found by me, after the fact, when I got home safely.

The true lesson was in realizing that I'm far more capable than I give myself credit for. I'm book smart and can learn almost anything. Thank you driver's manual that came with my car.

Most women shy away from simple maintenance of their car because they worry about messing something up. Still, small things like learning to inflate your own tires can be a comfort when you're out on your own and suddenly have no one to call.

I still take my car to my mechanic's shop when I need an oil change, but I've learned to be more confident about my car and about myself. Next time your husband, brother, friend, etc works on your car, peek over his shoulder, ask questions, or ask to help.

Your ability to learn gives you power over your own life and it'll give you a great confidence boost when you do something you didn't know you could.

My next project to tackle is putting windshield washer fluid in my car.

What's holding me back?

I've never opened the hood… (cue dramatic music)

Stay tuned for more of my car adventures. Tell me what you've experienced. What are your thoughts on a woman doing her own car maintenance?

Until next time.
Sexify your life,

I was born and raised in Florida. We moved to Arizona when I was 15. Talk about culture shock! The two states are so opposite of each other! I have lived in AZ for most of my adult life, taking time out to attend BYU in Provo, Utah. After school I returned home to become my mom's Caregiver. I started writing then, too, although I had always wrote at one time or another in my life.  My mom was a
writer too; one of her stories won a state-wide Contest and was Serialized in the North Fort Myers, Florida Newspaper for 17 weeks. I'm a professed Book-A-Holic, and mom taught me to read before I started school. So, I guess that means I was destined to be a writer ---one way or another!
I love doing Research for my books, and plan on venturing into the Non Fiction genre some time in the near future. So many subjects, so little time!

Beware Scam Phone Calls #WritersLife

I recently received an automated voice phone call purportedly from the IRS. The first said I would be prosecuted if I didn't call them back immediately. The second, days later, said that they were "filing a lawsuit against me if I didn't call them back immediately."

Excuse the cursing, but this sort of thing pisses me off. The call came listed as being from Texas, which I highly doubt, but that's now what's most important. Here's the facts you need to know to stay safe from these scam phone calls.

The IRS doesn't call to extort money from you. They don't ever need to because, let's face the truth, they have access to all our information and accounts. Sounds scary but true, so don't get freaked out by these phone calls. Also, if they threaten to send law enforcement or prosecute you, think about that…Why tell an "alleged criminal" you're coming after them. STUPID.

They are not from the IRS!

How can you be more confident this is a scam?

Did you know that if you put a phone number into the search box of your browser that you'll be able to find links that will show you where this phone number came from? You will likely also find others who have reported this scam. You aren't alone. There are even places to report these sort of calls.

Lastly, if you need some sort of reassurance because you're worried, here's what you do. Get a phone book, look up the IRS and give them a call if you are unsure whether you own money. Truly though folks, if you haven't received anything in writing, don't sweat it.

The IRS doesn't make phone calls.

Sadly, the elderly are the most likely to fall for these calls, but it's the fear factor that can get to anyone. Fear is what allows these scammers to be successful. Don't be a victim. Be a skeptic. Take a breath, think logically and don't ever react in fear.

Stay safe, friends. Block these callers from your phone immediately.

Kind regards,

Please RT and share, Send Sindriel to Print

When I first considered writing Sindriel I never dreamed how great the book would turn out. He was a mysteriously sexy demon who I wasn't sure was hero material. So glad he proved me wrong because the love he found was worth every page of my time.

Sindriel was the first story I ever considered giving up on, because I had such trouble finding him a heroine who suited him. Funny, how it just took rereading the first story, Love's Demon Ways to realize Miranda Contreras was his equal in so many ways.

Miranda, for her part, is literally down to her last mustard seed of hope for any kind of happy ending. She's the single woman deserving of the badboy who'll always protect her. How could I not play matchmaker to a heroine like that?

I'm making it my goal to sell 500 copies of SINDRIEL by Halloween on October 31st  thereby sending the book into Print. I'd like to appeal to all my loyal readers and writers to help me make this dream a reality.

If you like the story, buy Sindriel today for the low price of 3.99 from Siren publishing.

If you can, please retweet or share a link to this blog with your fellow readers and writers on Twitter and Facebook to get them involved in this bold venture. I've never made such an appeal as this, but Sindriel is the perfect read for Halloween with demons, hell realms, and the prevailing power of love.

Whatever you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. I'll announce it on November 1st if we've met the goal. Use the social media boxes at the bottom of this blog to share.

Come on readers and writers let's have some Sindriel fun!

Sexify your Life this October

To me, October is all about the fun and festivities associated with Autumn and Halloween. Night approaches sooner and there is a crisp chill to the air. The darkness is deeper and what moves in the shadows longs for a taste of mortal pleasure.
Hehe. Yes, I love this month and here's why.
One of my favorite things to do is bake pumpkin cookies. So delicious. How do you make pumpkin cookies? Well, for me it's just pumpkin bread rolled and then flattened into a moist cookie shape before baking. I'm a simple cook, though I'm sure you can find some amazing recipes on the internet.
Then there is the decorating to do.
I bring out my fall decorations of red and gold leaves, but there are also the paper skeletons to hang and the vampires to attract. Oh, repel, excuse me.

Still, if just can't help yourself and want to submit to fangs, might I suggest my Vampiric Indulgence stories. It's just the right amount of naughty for those with innocent necks. *grin*
Tasting Camilla: When Camilla's blood awakens Vladislas's deepest eternal hunger, who will be declared the true captive?
Craving Elisa: Can vampire hunter Brandt resist Elisa's decadent offer of gratitude?
Click the above Vampiric Indulgence stories link to get your fang action with these two great short stories.

Personally, I'm all about demon bargainer and Lord of the Crimson Shroud, Sindriel. Yes, October and especially Halloween is his thing. For a demon-bargainer there is no more fun month. Here's a link to find out more about him and his delicious adventures.
Starting October 1st I have a challenge for readers and fellow authors. It's a quest for assistance from the best people that I know. Check it out tomorrow.

What do you do to celebrate the month of October? What's your favorite paranormal beastie that will keep you entertained this month?

Until next time, readers.
